Midwest Charm with Anna

#ArtPrize10

Information for post is from ArtPrize.org

The streets of Grand Rapids are starting to look a little more lively as ArtPrize 2018 is nearly here! Opening day for #ArtPrize10 is on Wednesday and artists are busy at work with their installations popping up all around town. For those that are unfamiliar, ArtPrize is an open, independently organized international art competition which takes place for 19 days every other fall in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Art is displayed throughout downtown Grand Rapids—museums, bars, public parks, restaurants, theaters, hotels, bridges, laundromats, auto body shops, vacant storefronts and office spaces. This year, 1,260+ works created by 1,400+ artists from 41 states and 40 countries will be exhibited in 165+ venues. Best part?! Any artist working in any medium from anywhere in the world can participate. This makes for the most incredible experience as you parade around GR. For 19 days, the city comes to life in a way unlike any other! This free event attracts hundreds of thousands of people making it one of the largest public art events in the world. One of my favorite parts of ArtPrize is the ability attendees have to participate. There are more than five hundred thousand dollars in prizes awarded each year and that includes a $200,000 prize awarded entirely by public vote. Another $200,000 prize is awarded by a jury of art experts. So fun to not only experience the art but also participate as you find pieces around the city that speak to you! For those that make it to West Michigan for the big event, I hope you enjoy. I remember my first ArtPrize being a memorable one and I hope yours is too! (I also remember getting terrible blisters from my poor shoe selection hahah! Think practical>fashionable for this particular event! Enjoy the art and the atmosphere over your outfit, I promise you won’t regret it!)
